" If only there was a augury , or some denotation that he would be a ' dictator on day one . ' "
Many Americans say theyfearthe long-term repercussions of Donald Trump’s second presidential term.
In ther/politicssubredditu/Competitive_Ad291presented aconcernthat several US scholars share, according to NPR, which is that the “US is swiftly sliding towardauthoritarianism.”
Five hundred and twenty US-based political scientists have indicated their concerns in aBright Line Watchsurvey since 2017. It asks professors to rate the performance of American democracy on a scale from zero (dictatorship) to 100 (perfect democracy). In November, after Trump’s reelection, the rating was 67. However, weeks into Trump’s second term it had fallen to 55.
“There’s certainly consensus: We’re moving in the wrong direction,” the co-director of Bright Line Watch, John Carey, told NPR.
In response, people expressed concern and frustration:
1.“What part of ‘I will be adictatorfrom day one,’ did they not hear? Harsh perhaps, but now might not be the time for prevarication of words and deeds. That slippery slope is getting steeper.”
2.“Part of the country thinks the real threat is thetranscommunity and immigrants; others agree with the scholars, but are too complacent to do anything about it.”
