" ' Prime , but with human beings ' is legitimately one of the most dementedly depraved things I ’ve ever heard . "

Aftercampaigningon a platform of mass deportation, the second Trump administration has aggressively pursued mass arrests and removals of immigrants — eventargeting thosewho have been regularly checking in and cooperating with authorities, and, in at least one instance, wrongfully deportinga migrant.

Now, Trump’s head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Todd Lyons, tolda crowd at the 2025 Border Security Expo in Phoenix, Arizona, that he would like his agency to round up immigrants for deportation similar to how Amazon Prime quickly delivers packages across the country.

“We need to get better at treating this like a business,” hesaid, according to the Arizona Mirror, which first reported on the story. He continued, saying that he would like the deportation process to function “like [Amazon] Prime, but with human beings.”

Also at the convening were Trump ’s " border czar , " Tom Homan , and the secretary of the US Department of Homeland Security , Kristi Noem , who both praised Trump’scontroversial invocationof the Alien Enemies Act — a law date back to 1798 and most of late used during World War II to intern Japanese Americans — for ease the transportation of Venezuelan nationals .

In response to Lyons’s remark, many have criticized it as deeply inhumane.

“totally normal way to speak about other human beings,” one person wrote.

“‘Prime, but with human beings’ is legitimately one of the most insanely depraved things I’ve ever heard. This administration is on another level of hatefulness,” another wrote.

“normalizing it to this extent is disgusting and inhumane,” this person wrote.

And finally, one comment summed up the tone of much of the outrage: “America is a hopelessly evil country.”
