I don’t know about you, but I thinkNikki Glaser’sGolden Globesmonologue in January was one of the standout moments of the entire 2025 awards season.
Marking the first time a woman has ever hosted the Globes solo in the 30 years since the ceremony first introduced hosts, Nikki receivedhigh praiseand showed past hosts how it’s done. She was controversial and outrageous, without being too offensive or distasteful — and by all accounts, it sounds like the stars in the audience loved her, too, even if some of them were the subject of her jokes.
Though she’s gained a reputation for being the ultimate celebrity roaster, Nikki has talked openly about the complications of mocking famous people in her work, particularly if they’re someone she knows or “might have to meet.” And despite her Golden Globes gig being a roaring success, the comedian just revealed a slight hitch that arose in the lead-up to her big hosting debut.
During a conversation at theTime100 summitin New York on Wednesday, Nikki talked about celebrities feeling “nervous” about getting roasted at the Globes and revealed that Timothée Chalamet and his team were apparently left anxious after she teased that there would be jokes about him in her monologue.
“That got back to him, and he was just going to skip my monologue and get there late, just so he didn’t have to deal with it,” Nikki said, theorizing that it also may have had something to do with the fact that he was bringing Kylie Jenner as his date. “I get it, because he’s there with his girlfriend, who is already the subject of so many jokes. He shouldn’t have to sit there if I’m going to make fun of something about him — it’s, like, his night. So, I don’t begrudge him doing that.”
Despite being sympathetic toward his feelings, Nikki was eager to make sure Timmy was in the room for her monologue, so she took it upon herself to reach out to his rep and set the record straight.
“I left a message for his publicist, being like, ‘I love Timothée! I’m not telling you the jokes, but I promise the jokes are only uplifting him… I would never do anything to ruin his night!’ And I’m glad that they believed [me],” she said. “I was literally about to walk onto the red carpet, and I was like, ‘Hi, it’s Nikki Glaser, if you could get Timothée to come on time — I promise you, I love Kylie! I wear her cosmetics!’”
Well, whatever she said seemingly did the trick, as Timothée and Kylie were seated in the audience for the monologue and could be seenlaughing togetherwhen Nikki set her sights on him for a couple of (fairly tame) jokes about his Golden Globe and Oscar-nominated performance inA Complete Unknown.
