Great , now I ’m crying over coffee beans and " The Last of Us " opening credits .

There are obviously monolithic mollycoddler before forThe Last of UsSeason 2andThe Last of Us Part IIvideo secret plan !

.First, in the opening credits, Ellie’s (Bella Ramsey) silhouette at the end that grows out of the cordyceps is now alone, with Joel’s silhouette no longer part of the intro. Pedro Pascal’s name is also absent.

.The flowers outside Joel’s house and on his mailbox are a recreation of what is shown in the game, too.

.In Ellie’s old room in Joel’s house, you can see a hat on top of her dresser. The hat appears to be the same one used in a flashback from the game, when Joel and Ellie go to the science and history museum. Based on trailers, we’ll see this flashback later in the season.

.When Ellie opens the box and finds Joel’s watch and gun, it’s a shot-for-shot recreation of what happens inThe Last of Us Part II.

.And, Ellie finding Joel’s signature coat and smelling it is something that also happens in the video game.

.When we are introduced to the Seraphites, the young girl is wearing her hair braided on top of her head. Gamers will recognize this hairstyle because Yara wears her hair the same way inThe Last of Us Part II.

.Just a fun detail from Ellie’s room: You can spot aThe Matrix(1999) poster behind her while she’s training with Jesse (Young Mazino).

.When Gail (Catherine O’Hara) tells Tommy (Gabriel Luna) that she’s a baseball fan, and the kids aren’t much better than the 2003 Tigers, she’s referring to the season when the Detroit Tigersnotably went 43–119, which was the most losses in American League history, until the 2024 White Sox surpassed that.

.Dina tells Ellie that they’d meet by the east gate at 3 a.m., which is also where Dina and Ellie plan to leave from in the game. However, in the game, they end up not needing to sneak out as Maria lets them go in order to find Tommy, who heads to Seattle first.

.Ellie taking a moment by herself at Joel’s grave, while Dina watches, is also a moment directly from the game. However, in the game, Joel’s gravesite is in town.

.Ellie places a bunch of coffee beans at Joel’s grave, which is a nod to Joel’s love of coffee. They notably shared a hilarious coffee moment in Season 1, when he found out that Ellie doesn’t like it.

.On Dina’s list of what to pack, you can see that she even wrote down how their jackets will double as bedroll and blankets, which you see them doing in the tent later in the episode.

.And, you’ll notice that Ellie does take Dina’s advice and trades her Converse for a pair of sturdy boots. Dina’srunning jokeabout Ellie’s choice in footwear is also something fans of the game remarked on, as Ellie wears her black Converse throughout the entirety ofThe Last of Us Part II.

.Dina asking Ellie about her first kill is also a moment that happens in the game, too. In the game, it’s the first conversation we hear Dina and Ellie having while on their way to Seattle. In the show, Ellie says her first kill is “too fucked up,” which is a reference to the fact that Riley (Storm Reid) was likely the first person she had to kill.

.While in the tent, Dina asks Ellie to rate their kiss at the dance, and Ellie gives it a six. This moment also happens in the game, but earlier, when Dina and Ellie are on patrol and take shelter from the blizzard in Eugene’s secret growhouse.

.While riding Shimmer, you’ll notice that Ellie is holding her rifle with the scope the same way that Joel used to when they rode together.

.And finally, just like in the game, when Ellie and Dina spot a car, that’s how they know they are almost in Seattle. Also, the music that plays when Dina and Ellie get to Seattle is the home screen music fromThe Last of Us Part II.

Alright, that’s all for now. Come back again next week for even more details from the next episode.
