A while ago, IaskedBlack members of the BuzzFeed Community to share their experiences and advice about being adopted by white families.

Many people opened up andsharedtheir stories and now I want to hear stories from all transracial adoptees (people raised by adoptive parents of a different race or ethnic group).

For example, maybe you want people to know that just because your parents are a different race than you, it doesn’t mean you are confused about your racial identity or aren’t proud of it.

Maybe your parents actually did a lot to keep you in touch with the culture of your racial and ethnic background so that you felt comfortable in those communities as well as at home.

Or maybe your parents treated you and their biological children differently which always made you feel out of place in the family.

Or just maybe you’re the one who adopted a child of different race or ethnic group, and you learned a lot of things that you wished you’d known sooner.
