What health " myths " should parents be cognizant of ?

As a parent, you do your best to make the best decisions for your young kids, especially regarding their health. And with the abundance of knowledge we have access to (thanks to the internet), it can feel like there’s conflicting information on the best way to care for your family.

So, pediatricians, we want to hear from you: What are the health “lies” or mistakes that more parents should know for their kids?

Like, maybe you’ve had a lot of parents think they’re properly teaching kids about nutrition by labeling foods “good” or “bad,” but in reality, this can create a lot of fear around food, and you have a much better approach that parents should take.

Perhaps you’ve encountered parents who didn’t think it was necessary to brush their baby’s teeth until a certain age, but the truth is, you should start brushing their teethas soon as they get their first tooth(at around 6 months old)!

Maybe you’ve seen a lot of parents neglect or dismiss their kids' mental health, and you want to share why you believe it’s as important as their physical health.

Or perhaps you’ve had parents who think their kids are OK just drinking juice, milk, or sports drinks — but you can share why water is, in fact, vitalfor children to get proper hydration.

Or maybe you can bust some surprising health “myths” not many parents know — like, apparently, sugar does not make kids hyper(but, of course, processed sugar still can impact their health).
