" your impact will eternally transcend f1 and we ’re so favourable to be witness all the change you ’re helping to create in this world . "

Formula One superstarLewis Hamiltontruly sets an example of championing others.

If you didn’t know, Lewis was a co-chair at the 2025 Met Gala, alongside Pharrell Williams, Colman Domingo, A$AP Rocky, honorary co-chair LeBron James, and, of course, Anna Wintour.

But Sir Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton took his role a step further to honor the legacy of Black icons in fashion by using his money to purchase his own table and inviting a group of esteemed Black women in art and entertainment.

This year’sthemewas based on the Met’s Costume Institute’s Spring exhibit:Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, with a dress code primarily focused on Black menswear and the history of Dandyism.

Here’s the thing: CBS Newsreportedthat a table for multiple guests at the Met Gala reportedly starts at $350,000. The cost of entry to the event for an individual is $75,000. More often than not, couture fashion houses purchase the tables and invite guests. So, Lewis truly stepped up and stepped outside the box for this year’s event by purchasing his own.

In a May 6 Instagram post, Lewisexplainedhis reason for purchasing the table and inviting the guests. “You can’t speak on Black dandyism, Black art, or Black aesthetics without honoring the Black women who shaped, nurtured, and redefined it all,” he began.

“This year, my intention was to uplift and be surrounded by some of the Black women whose brilliance moves me—artists, thinkers, visionaries who carry history and possibility in everything they do,” Lewis added, praising his guests.

Lewis invited Lauryn Hill, Regina King, artist Jordan Casteel, photographer Ming Smith, Adrienne Warren, Danielle Deadwyler, multimedia artist Lorna Simpson, and Vanity Fair editor-in-chief, Radhika Jones.

“Thank you all for your presence, your power, and the gifts you so generously share with the world. I’m deeply grateful to have shared this evening with you,” he added.

Lewis’s move to honor these Black women didn’t go unnoticed by the public. “your impact will forever transcend f1 and we’re so lucky to be witness all the change you’re helping to create in this world ♥️,” one person wrote.

This person said, “Just wow Lewis. So proud to be your fan - the way you walk the talk, share space and provide platforms and your unbelievable generosity - this is a privilege to witness and learn from! Thank you!”

“There is a reason why they called on you to be Co-Chair! You really highlight the essences of black beauty🔥🔥🔥,” someone else wrote.

And this person said, “❤️❤️❤️🙌🙌🙌🙌 your impact will be remembered for years and years - you’re truly an icon.”

Admirably, Lewis’s gesture is not out of character. In 2021, he purchased a table at the Met Gala to specifically host Black designers who couldn’t afford a ticket to the event, allowing them to dress and bring other Black VIP guests.

His table that year consisted of designers Kenneth Nicholson, Edvin Thompson, Jason Rembert, stylist Law Roach, Kehlani, Miles Chamley-Watson, Alton Mason, and Sha’Carri Richardson.

Lewis Hamilton is a class act, and it makes sense why he’s basically Met Gala royalty.
