After returning safely, Katy notablyclaimedthat thecontroversialtrip was for “the benefit of Earth.” She said, “It’s about a collective energy and making space for future women. It’s about this wonderful world that we see right out there and appreciating it. This is all for the benefit of Earth.”

As you can probably imagine, tons of people have criticized the mission — includingcelebritieslikeEmily Ratajkowski, who specifically called out how destructive it was.

Emilysaid in a TikTok videothis week , “ That space mission this morning ? That ’s end - time shit . Like , this is beyond parody . Saying that you manage about Mother Earth and it ’s about Mother Earth , and you ’re going up in a spaceship that is built and paid for by a company that ’s singlehandedly destroying the major planet ? Look at the state of the world and think about how many resources die into putting these women into infinite … For what ? What was the selling there ? ”

Well, the backlash has only continued to grow after fans uncoveredold footageof Katy actually advocating against “man-made climate change.”

The video in question was released in 2015, with Katy actually representingUNICEFas an ambassador. She said, “Let’s take a journey and see how man-made climate change is hurting children around the world.”

“Over the Pacific in the Philippines, we’ve seen more devastating tropical cyclone patterns emerging, while further west in Bangladesh, millions of children and families have lost their homes to flooding. Because it’s always children who are first to suffer from its impact,” she continued.

After citing more lesson of the ravage impacts of climate change , Katy warned people that “ things will worsen . ” She then urged , “ Please join me in support UNICEF to change the forecast for tiddler . Fight unjust . ”

Reacting to the resurfaced clip now, several people have called Katy a “hypocrite” given her recent defense of the space mission. “Celebrities are walking oxymorons,” one personsaid, while someone elsewrote, “The biggest hypocrite.”
