Jenna Ortega is becoming one of the well - dressed on every red carpet she attends , including the Met Gala .
The 2025Met Galahappened last night, with thetheme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,“which draws inspiration from Monica L. Miller’s 2009 bookSlaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. The theme was also reflected in the dress code, “Tailored for You,” which encouraged guests to interpret the concept of dandyism and tailoring in their outfits this year.
There were so manygreat looks at this year’s gala— from women rockingincredible suitsto some of the men showing up instellar outfits(and leaving the plain, back suits behind) to just some jaw-dropping red carpet moments, like Diana Ross’s time on the famous Met Gala stairs, and more.
While there are so many Met Gala looks to discuss, the internet could not get enough of Jenna Ortega because, let’s be honest, she’s ALWAYS one of the best parts of red carpets, award shows, and more.
First, prior to even stepping foot on the famous Met Gala red carpet, Jenna turned heads leaving the Mark Hotel on her way to the event in a black oversized coat, in order to hide her actual Met Gala look underneath.
The before look was also paired with the simple, but very sleek, matching black sunglasses.
Then, once she hit the red carpet, it was when she truly turned heads in this jaw-dropping metallic outfit that was designed by Olivier Rousteing for Balmain.
Jenna paired the metallic dress with Old Hollywood-inspired waves in her hair by hair stylist Cesar Deleon Ramirez, a deep burgundy lip color, smoky gray eyeshadow, a silver necklace from Grown Brilliance, and earrings by Hearts On Fire.
And while from far away the look is stunning on its own, if you get closer, you’ll notice the dress is actually made up of metal rulers.
Here’s a closer look at the bottom of the dress, too, and you can catch a look at the rings by Hearts On Fire:
And here’s a look at the back (and the shoes):
Ina video posted to their Instagram, Balmain showed the behind-the-scenes process of what went into creating Jenna’s 2025 Met Gala look.
“[Jenna Ortega] embodies Balmain’s edgy, modern spirit in a striking custom-made look inspired by the art of tailoring tape & rules,” the brand wrote in the caption.
“A poetical ode to couture and craftsmanship, the sleek sheath dress is crafted entirely from the metallic rulers used by patternmakers, placed vertically along the body to enhance the silhouette to create a bustier gown sculpted on her body.”
Alongside Jenna, Olivier also designed Rosalía’s Met Gala look, which was inspired by a mannequin. Hetold Vogueon the carpet, “I think I wanted to start from the mannequin, which is the base of every suit…”
And Olivier notably stepped out on the carpet carrying a bag that was a Balmain sewing machine, so every look he had on the carpet connected to the tailoring of style and fashion.
For an afterparty following the Met Gala, Jenna was photographed alongsideSabrina Carpenter, where she traded in the metallic ruler dress for an all black bodysuit inspired by the design of a tailored suit.
Overall, I think Jenna absolutely killed it at the 2025 Met Gala and I’m going to be talking about this Balmain dress for days.
