As you probably know by now, the 2025Met Galatook place last night, with many of the world’s most famous faces proudly showing off their interpretations of this year’s dress code on the iconic carpet. For reference, the theme wasSuperfine: Tailoring Black Stylewith a “Tailored for You” dress code.
Vogue’s editor-in-chief,Anna Wintour, has presided over the Met Gala since 1995, and while this has undeniably made her the name most prominently associated with the annual event, it’s fair to say that her outfit of choice rarely receives the same level of anticipation and attention as the A-list guest list.
But this year, while everyone was obsessing overZendaya’s chic Louis Vuitton suit, andSir Lewis Hamilton’sGrace Wales Bonner look, Anna was also going viral for her 2025 outfit — but I highly doubt that she is happy about the reason why.
In case you missed it, Anna wore a custom Louis Vuitton silver gown with an embroidered floral pattern under a floor-length powder-blue coat to this year’s gala.
She accessorized with a large brooch and layered necklace, as well as her trademark bob, but social media users were distracted by what appeared to be a small stain on her dress that was visible as soon as she stepped foot on the blue carpet.
The tiny mark was almost unnoticeable, and looked like it could have been from Anna’s lipstick. Still, while this may not be a big deal for us regular folk, Anna is renowned for being a perfectionist, and also for her demanding and no-nonsense approach to fashion. If you need reminding, Anna has regularly been compared toMeryl Streep’sformidable character Miranda Priestly in the 2006 movieThe Devil Wears Prada.
As a result, people have little doubt that Anna would be less than impressed by this oversight of her outfit on the biggest night in fashion, and feared for the person who would be found responsible for it.
It’s worth noting that it has been theorized that the red mark wasn’t a stain at all, but stitching that was consciously added to the dress, with one persontweeting: “There’s a random batch of red stitching on Anna Wintour’s #MetGala2025 dress and I need the backstory.”
