I ’ve spent most of my living building a career as a public pedagog who definitely embraces and push diversity , fairness , and inclusion , and I live in Florida , where public education is very much on the chopping city block and our pouty , petulant goblin of a regulator has made the schoolroom the front line of his culture war .
In recent years , whenever I read the comment part of these stories , there are scores of MAGA folks screech in refrain about evil liberal teachers indoctrinate tiddler with vegan transgender socialist economy .
“ Their [ sic ] teaching are [ sic ] kids CRT [ vital race theory ] ! ” take a firm stand one commenter . “ They desire snowy shaver to feel guilty about their race ! ” hollo another . On and on they go — assert , commiserating and spreading their noxious grievances .
And almost none of what they arrogate is rightful .
Although I ’m in public high education now , I was a public high school teacher for over a ten . I ferment at three radically different schools in three radically dissimilar counties . Most of my societal circle is made up of teachers . If indoctrination were pass off at graduated table , I ’d acknowledge about it .
It ’s just not come about .
Almost every teacher I ’ve ever meet ( and that number is in the mellow hundreds at this point ) is exceedingly careful not to hash out politics or religion while at school — even with other adult , even in the comparative privacy of the break way , even one - on - one in their own classroom during lunch or planning . Within a few weeks , he had get down complaining about “ how tired of and unintelligent ” pronouns are . “ They can call themselves whatever they require , ” he said , “ just do n’t expect me to trifle dissemble too . ”
Those two cases are essentially the extent of educators express their personal beliefs at piece of work that I ever encountered .
