Per theBBC, Tory — real name Daystar Peterson — was attacked by another inmate at around 07:20 a.m. local time, and prison staff began aid on Tory before he was taken to a local medical facility for further treatment. A spokesperson for California’s corrections department, Pedro Calderón, added that an investigation into the stabbing is underway.
“Tory was stabbed 14 times - including 7 wounds to his back, 4 to his torso, 2 to the back of his head, and 1 to the left side of his face,” the statement on Tory’s Instagram page began. “Both of his lungs collapsed, and he was placed on a breathing apparatus.”
