" More artists need to have this same level of self - awareness . Not everyone can do FOR the superbowl , and that ’s okay ! "

The ultimate Super Bowl Halftime Show requires a perfect mix of ingredients: hit songs, fashion, and spectacle, just to name a few. And one person who seems very aware of this isEd Sheeran.

Of course, Ed has no lack of hits — he’s a four-time Grammy winner and thesixth most streamed artistin the history of Spotify. However, the British star recently revealed that he can’t picture himself taking on the halftime show anytime soon.

Appearing on the latest episode ofCall Her Daddy, Ed was asked by host Alex Cooper whether he’d ever been approached for the Super Bowl Halftime Show, prompting him to reveal he was involved in a “conversation about 10 years ago to go on with someone.” He doesn’t specify who it was, although he did say that a guest appearance would be the “only way” that he’d ever agree to do it.

“I’ve had this conversation before. I don’t think English artists are like — I mean, there are some that have the pizazz of Super Bowl, fireworks, dancers, blah, blah, blah. But me going up there and being like, ‘Here’s the “The A Team,"’ and ‘here’s “Perfect."’ Like, no one wants to see that,” he said.

Doubling down on his previous thoughts, Ed continued: “If it was Beyoncé’s show, and she had all the bells and whistles, and then there was a moment where we sang ‘Perfect’ together, that makes sense to me. But me [by myself], I can’t picture myself doing it… I would definitely go on and do it with someone, just to do the Super Bowl, but I don’t think my set lends itself to that.”

And amid the praise, there are some people who feel he sold himself short.

So, what do you think? Could you see Ed doing the Super Bowl? I personally think that “Shape of You” would be incredible for the halftime show. You can listen to his full appearance onCall Her Daddyhere.
