" Just get your work done on time . Do n’t worry when in the solar day , do n’t care where , and do n’t really care how . "

Whether it’s a ridiculous amount of PTO or discounts on gyms or wellness, there are often stories about unreal benefits employees have gotten at work. Reddit usershnaLLerrecently asked, “What is a company perk that shows they really care about their employees?” Here are the things people loved the most:

1.“Money. I don’t care about parties or swag. Give me a raise. Period.”

" Paying a live on wage . It ’s truly the one fringe benefit to rule them all . Corporate hat this one little joke to get employee to finger valued . "

2."…it sure isn’t a pizza party."

3.“If you work late on a Tuesday, feel free to take off early on Friday.”

4.“The company I worked at gave you a week of paid leave if you adopted a dog from a local shelter. It was to help you bond. They called it paw-ternity leave.”

5.“My dad was dying, and my mother was losing her mind, and I needed to be by his bedside. They said, ‘Take all the time you need. Don’t worry about sick time. Don’t worry about vacation time. Don’t worry about any aspect of your job; just focus on your family.’ And they paid me for it.”

6.“A generous PTO policy. I’m a much better employee when I get time to rest my mind outside of work. Far too many do not give people suitable flexibility.”

7.“Good health benefits with low premiums because the company pays most of the insurance costs.”

8.“Unlimited sick days with managers that encourage using them. Why force people to come in sick and work, and get the rest of the team sick?”

9.“When my cat was diagnosed with cancer, they let me work from home for over a month (pre-Covid) so that I could be around him as much as possible. He didn’t make it, sadly, but that flexibility at a time when it was much less common gave me so much more time to be with him and to take care of him than I otherwise would have.”

10.“Work from home as an option if your job doesn’t require you to do it in an office. My company doesn’t provide that option, but it definitely would be a perk if they did. Three years of surveys in a row where WFH has been the number one request, and they still ignore it.”

11.“Including miscarriage as a valid reason for paid bereavement leave.”

— uracil / Avogadros_plumber

12.“My old workplace had a ‘summer Fridays’ policy. Every Friday during the summer, the office closed at 1 p.m. so we could make the most of the nice weather.”

13.“A simple check-in from management or leads saying, ‘How are you doing? What can I help with?’ It feels like everyone is going at it alone these days — no team building, onboarding, mentorship, or compassion.”

— uranium / timmhaan

14.“Don’t make people beg for time off or ask intrusive questions. Believe what people tell you.”

15.“I work for a good company that cares about employees a lot. Here’s a secondary detail that still speaks for itself. Pads, wet wipes, and deodorants are in every women’s bathroom inside the office building. I haven’t been in the men’s bathrooms for obvious reasons, but I guess they also have everything needed.”

16.“401k match.”

17.“I’m a pilot for a big global charter company. Last May, my dad was hospitalized, and it wasn’t looking good. I called the on-duty manager to notify them that my dad was having issues and that I may need to leave my eight-day tour shorter in a few days. 20 minutes later, they called with a rental car to Denver (I was in the mountains then), airlines to Tampa where my dad was, and then a rental car in Tampa for the rest of the week. All covered by the company. No manager calling me to tell me to make up the time; they just let me go. Without that cooperation and arrangement, I would not have been able to see my dad in his last few days here, and I am forever thankful to my company for doing that.”

18.“Solid maternity leave (and bonus points if the same is offered for paternity). It shows that the company recognizes you have a life outside of work, and they recognize you will be more productive if given sufficient time to transition into this new phase of your life.”

19.“I work in software startups, so I’ve been a bit spoiled, but minimum vacation time taken. Requiring employees to rest and recharge.”

20.“My boss will randomly hand out gift cards throughout the year for dining at Olive Garden, Longhorn Steakhouse, Cracker Barrel, etc.”

21.“Pension!”

22.“Four-day work weeks. Having Fridays off has been amazing.”

23.“My mom and I worked together at a restaurant. At the time, I had worked there for 13 years, and she had worked there for 12 years. She unexpectedly passed, and the company paid for the funeral. They closed the restaurant the day of her passing and the day of the funeral. Most workers came, including two corporate managers, and some were even pallbearers. The company told me to take all the time I needed. I only took a week off and went back to work to take my mind off it. The company gave me that week’s pay. When I came back, they handed me an envelope with $400 in tips everyone had saved up for that week. The more I tell people this, the more I realize how unusual it is for companies to even think of such a thing, let alone do it.”

24.“Back when my dad was still working, he paid 100% of the costs for healthcare and daycare for his employees.”

25.“I had an uncle who was like my second dad. He had been battling leukemia on and off for 13 years. He had another cancer scare, and his doctor gave him a week to live. Friends and family were coming from all over the country to see him one last time. I had taken three days off of work. When I went back to work, I was called into my boss’s office and was told it was unacceptable. He told me that he was actively going through a divorce, which is the same thing, and he was able to go to work. Then HR called me into their office and said that because he was my uncle, it didn’t classify under bereavement. I quit not too long after for other reasons.”

" My uncle lasted another six month before he passed . By that metre , I had been with my new troupe for about four months . Everyone at my young job knew what was going on . I call my genus Bos , crying that I had a house emergency , and he was completely understanding and told me to let him know if I necessitate anything . I went to my next workings shift , and my gaffer scream me into his office . or else of berate me , he asked how I was doing , if I was hunky-dory with work that day , and if I needed more time . They even leave me mourning for the day he passed and the day of his funeral . That was belike the best company I worked for . "

27.“This is outside of salary, PTO, and benefits, which I consider compensation and not a perk. Free or discounted gym memberships. Flex time (i.e., being able to do four-day weeks or start earlier so you can leave earlier. Training allowance or free/discounted tuition.”

28.“Year-end bonuses. Good ones.”

— u / max - in - the - family

29.“Not a perk, but the job I just started paid me for the homework assignment they asked me to complete as part of the interview process. And it was hourly, so I made like $800 AND got the job! Big green flag.”

30.“Just get your work done on time. Don’t care when in the day, don’t care where, and don’t really care how.”

— u / futureformerteacher

31.“Become known for being good to your employees. Celebrate their successes, even in their private lives, like giving new parents and newlyweds a bonus, celebrating birthdays, helping out when someone is sick or injured, etc. That’s the kind of company I’d like to work for, whether they make cars, sell ice cream, build skyscrapers, or do anything else. It’s possible to treat people well and succeed in business, you just have to want it.”
