" I went to the window and there was a guy with a toughie on prove to get into the RV . "
Recently, I came across a post that Reddit userthrowRA437890(or Throw for short) wrote on the subredditCasual Conversationentitled,“A subconscious gut feeling saved my life last night, when has it saved yours?“and NGL, the story of their subconscious feeling was kinda spooky.
Throw begins, “I usually work late way out in the middle of nowhere, so I drive home on dirt roads late at night. I never see a soul on these roads. I also live in the praries, so I can see pretty far every direction.”
“There is a singular stop sign on my path home,” he continued. “Last night I was wondering whether or not I should stop, because really, there is no point…I reasoned with myself that if I don’t stop now, I’ll make a habit of it, and then that’ll turn into a problem, so I began to slow down.”
Throw went on: “As soon as I hit the stop sign, a truck came barreling through the intersection.”
Absolutely horrifying. Naturally, plenty of people came out of the woodwork to share stories about times their own “gut feelings” absolutely saved them, and I couldnotstop reading. So, I decided to share! Here are some of the best answers:
1.“I was 16, learning to drive. I drove around with Mom for practice before we picked up a pizza for dinner. But after paying, we decided Mom would drive the way back. Dunno why. Just a feeling we both had that I had enough practice for one day, and mom should drive.”
2.“This is all a true story. I was outside beside some very tall trees. The wind suddenly picked up a bit, clouds came in and the sky started looking weird. I decided to go inside, despite there not being any real reason to.”
I decided to go in the basement because of the hail, and something didn’t feel right. Not two minutes later, the power went out. I went to check my phone, and as I pulled out my phone, another tornado alarm went off that told me to take shelter immediately.”
3.“Hitchhiking when I was 18. Got in a white van, and straight away the guy gave me the creeps. He locked the doors and opened a lunchbox with a sandwich in it and said, ‘Here, this is for you.’ It felt so fucking wrong.”
4.“Many, many, years ago, I was hitchhiking and just got a bad vibe from the guy who picked me up. I jumped out at a red light. It wasJames Koedatich. He was a classmate’s brother.”

5.“When I was in high school, I used to go running at night in our neighborhood alone (I know, stupid). So I went out one night around 9:30 p.m. and was on my usual route. I was running towards a cluster of trees and started to get a weird feeling. I can’t explain it, I just felt uneasy.”
6.“One day, years ago, I was driving along approaching this blind rural intersection going about 55 mph. For some reason, honking my horn randomly seemed like the right thing to do.”
7.“I was in a shared Uber with one other girl I didn’t know, both of us in the back. We’re driving through the city, and some guy off the street asks the Uber driver for a ride a few blocks away through his driver-side window.”
“I speak up and say, ‘Sorry, where did you say you need to go again?’ and he replies, ‘Just around the corner,’ and I say, ‘If it’s just around the corner, you can walk then, right?'”
8.“Although not a life-saving event, I do have one interesting story. I used to absolutely love driving around with my sunroof open.”
9.“Walking back to our hotel from an NYC theater, I noticed a man following my husband and me. I stopped to pretend I was window shopping; so did he. I thought to cut across the street, but another man was pacing us on that side.”
10.“A couple of years ago, I was driving to go to a brewery for my friend’s pre-wedding party. I was asked to go about an hour early to help her set some things up. One of my friends had called me last minute and asked me to bring her to work.”
11.“I remember when I was 20, my mom and I were going to take the train to a nearby town so I could get a consultation on an upcoming surgery. My mom couldn’t shake the feeling that something bad would happen if we went.”
12.“When I was 14, I was going to ride my bike to the library before going to my grandparents’ that night for a week. For some reason, I got on my bike without my helmet. I made it to the end of the road and then turned around to get it. I’ve always felt like I heard a voice saying, ‘Hey, go get your helmet, you’re gonna need it.'”
13.“Just yesterday morning, I was waiting for the light to turn green so I could turn left, but the garbage truck at the light across from me caught my eye as it had the wrong blinker going for the lane he was in.”
14.“Not my own life, but one time I scrolled through my Facebook feed and a suggested group had a post by a woman who was grieving the sudden loss of all her pet rats over two days. It had just been posted, halfway ‘round the world; it was late at night for them.”
15.“I had just finished butchering a deer late at night. Usually, I take my bones and leftover scraps to The Pit in the woods to dump them, even if it’s late at night. I’ve never had a problem going out there in the dark at night. This time, though, I just had a feeling.”
16.“Literally two days ago, I went for a walk close to my neighborhood that I go to frequently. I almost always go on the same path, and the one time I decide to take a different street off just a weird feeling, I avoided a shooting that happened within the same timeframe down to the minute on the normal street I go on.”
17.“I am a woman (important for later). I’d just gotten off work at about 11:30 p.m. I needed to run to Walmart for something (back when they were 24-hour) and I pulled up and parked with a space between my car and the car next to me. The car had two guys sitting in it. I thought nothing of it, and went inside.”
18.“I lived in an RV in the middle of a big orange orchard for a couple of years. There was no one around. I usually didn’t bother to lock my door at night because I felt safe with my dogs. One night, I decided to lock the door.”
19.“I bartend in New Orleans, and pre-COVID, I ran a bar on a very sketchy block. More than twice, I got a gut feeling/spidey sense moment and told all my regulars outside to come in, because I was locking the door for a bit.”
